As the year comes to a close, thoughts turn to the promise of a new year and all that it will bring. For some, this means the start of something they’ve long aspired to, for others, an end to lingering habits they’ve struggled to shed.
Though a powerful motivator, we don’t need to wait for the start of a new year to take action. There are an infinite number of things we can do to brighten our world, today. And that doesn’t mean finding the solution to world peace.
Here are 10 little things I did in 2015 that have made my life better:
Get a new pillow. At least one third of your life is spent with eyes closed. Needless to say, comfort is key. Anything you can do to improve the quality of your sleep, is time well spent.
Take a probiotic supplement. Probiotic yogurts did a lot to raise awareness of the role and benefits of probiotics to digestive and intestinal health. A healthy gut makes for a happier person.
Smell the roses. Literally and figuratively. This seemingly small act is hugely symbolic. Smelling the roses requires taking the time to appreciate that which is larger than ourselves. And it is awesome.
Kiss your loved ones frequently. My boyfriend can attest to this one. Babies beware.
Learn something new. You can never lose for a curious mind. This year I took a drafting course, the first on a path to a certificate in interior decorating. Challenging and creative, I love it.
Forget about it. We all make mistakes and can look back on what we should have done differently. Your ex is an ex for good reason (in some cases many reasons!) but there’s no benefit to holding on to resentment.
Learn the wonders of coconut oil. Your skin and hair will love you for it.
Dress for the weather. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but winters are less welcome with each passing year. Though you can’t control the temperature, you can control how you dress for it. Properly bundled, Jack Frost won’t be able to nip at your toes.
Treat yourself. Let’s face it; none of us is getting any younger. I hadn’t had a facial in years and decided it was high time to indulge. And I endeavor to do so every two months.
Make donations. I live in a great country with freedoms and privileges of many types. Lots of people aren’t so lucky. Lending a hand to those less fortunate will always make you feel good.
Feel free to share some of your ideas on living a better day in the comments. Big or small, they all make a difference.
